Blue Boat Home learning to live together sustainably

I've wanted to build an herb spiral since we first moved into the house, but the back yard was such a wreck last year that I didn't get to it until this year. I followed the plan at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Herb_spiral.svg roughly, and will plant it according to that plan. It took about twice as many bricks as I expected, but fortunately we had plenty lying around! The plan calls for a sprinkler in the middle and bricks all the way down, but I started with a pile of dirt about 1m tall and 1m in radius and just started cutting away at the edges and building it up with bricks, starting at the bottom of the spiral, and adding a row every 2 1/2 bricks. As you can see in this picture, when I got all the way around I started leaving out bricks on the bottom and just building on the dirt. We'll see how it stands up when the dirt starts to settle!
