Lest I forget, here's how we celebrated my 33rd birthday...
October 26 fell on a Sunday this year. On Saturday, Jessie put herself "at my pleasure" for yardwork. We did a number of things we'd been meaning to do for some time, including cleaning the garage so we could put the car in, checking out the attic and getting the plants put to bed for the winter.
On Sunday we drove up to Lawrence for their annual Art Walk, since I'd been missing the monthly one in Fairfield. Unlike Fairfield's, Lawrence's is not centered around downtown, but is spread out among artists homes and studios all over town -- so there's a lot more walking to get to the art. That suited me fine, since it was a glorious fall day. We saw a lot of great art and a lot of Lawrence. It's kind of a culture shock, coming from provincial, conservative Emporia to liberal, cosmopolitan Lawrence. We can definitely understand why many of Jessie's coworkers at ESU choose to live in Lawrence and commute... but I bet they'll be envying us when gasoline gets scarce!
We had dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant, that being one of the cuisines I miss most in Emporia, and then drove home. That evening I fielded phone calls from my sister 'Becca, former roommate Matt, Jessie's parents Jim and Debbie, and uncle Carl. All in all it was a great weekend, and a great way to observe my birthday. Thanks, Jessie!!
